A "hoot" of a shower!

My friend Shelly is having boy/girl twins!

 I was in charge of games.  First, we did a name scramble where guests had to create first and middle names for each of the twins using the letters of Shelly and Tyler's names.  Shelly voted on her favorite boy name and her favorite girl name and the winners each got prizes.

 

 

Next, I showed the guests everything in the yellow bin above.  I then hid the basket and they had to write as many items from memory as they could.  The winner got a prize. About seven of the items had a little card with the price written on the inside.  We played Price is Right with these items and whoever got the least amount of difference without going over won a prize.

We have an amazing ward and Shelly probably had at least fifty people come! It was wonderful.

Shelly's sister-in-law chose an owl theme and found this decorated duct tape to put around the water bottles.  Such a cute idea!

For food, we decided on parfaits.  I definitely want to use this idea again in the future.  Guests could fill their cup with angel food cake, yogurt, yogurt/cool whip mix, strawberries, and granola.  It was the perfect light refreshment for an 11:00 a.m. shower.  It wasn't too sugary, but it was also filling. The biggest perk was how easy it was. Three of us split up buying the ingredients and no baking was involved (the cake was made by the Smith's bakery :-)).

 

 

Kate organized a bib making station. 

This was mine.  It, of course, has my actual phone number written on it, but I wasn't sure putting it on a public blog would be in my best interest!

The twins' daddy loved this one!

Kate, the one who made the invitations, organized a drawing for anyone who brought a pack of diapers to the shower.  The above picture shows most (but not all) of the diapers they received! I was amazed. People were so generous and brought many other beautiful gifts as well.

 

Drip, Drip, Drop Little April Showers!

Yesterday, we had the chance to honor this cute couple...

 and this big sister...

...who will be welcoming twin baby boys into their home in a few short weeks! We had an open house for their family with our co-workers and students' parents at Highland after school.  We attempted to transform the band room for the special occasion.

These blue chairs have been the bane of Angela's existence for the past three years (part of our fundraising efforts were to purchase black chairs appropriate for the stage); however, we both laughed at how perfectly they went with a baby boy shower!

Because it was an open house, we had a little activity/memory sheet for everyone to fill out.  It had a couple little games like a name scramble where guests create baby boy names out of the letters of Angela, Mark, and their daughter's names; guess the name of animal babies (who knows off the top of their head that a swan baby is called a cygnet?); guess how big around Angela is, when the twins will be born, how much they will weigh, etc.  I will contact winners via email later and deliver a little prize (which is easy because they are all at Highland!).  There was a little box for them to write a word of advice as well.  These sheets will go to Angela and Mark as a keepsake.

Erin, the dance teacher, threw the shower with me and provided delicious fruit, veggies, dip, and cookies, that were consumed quickly!

FACS teacher, art teacher, Freshman advisor, registrar...we were so happy so many people came out to celebrate with us!

They matched! I thought it was so cute. I don't know that it was on purpose, but it was perfect!

It was a really fun afternoon.  I seriously have been so blessed to work with these two amazing women.  I can't wait to meet the boys!

Over President's Day weekend, we had a sisters sleepover and made Scotty a mobile.  It was so fun and we all did a part of it.  I tied the fabric around the wood frame and cut out the stars.

University of Utah Doctoral Vocal Performance Candidates visit HHS choirs

They sang a quartet from La boheme at the beginning and a jazz quartet at the end to show their versatility.  Each of the women performed incredibly beautiful solos- one an aria and the other a musical theater piece. 

The men performed, "Lily's Eyes" from Secret Garden, which was the majority of my students' favorite number.  Funny connection- the guy on the right did his undergrad work at UCSB and was in my home ward with his wife and kids!

They answered questions for my students, who were quite a captive audience!

Kelly's Baby Shower

We had a "whale" of a time! (The theme of the shower).  It was an absolutely darling shower!

These little yogurt/cool whip parfaits were INCREDIBLE.  I had two.  I am totally using that idea.

Do you know which ones I got right and which ones I got wrong? I think I scored 5 out of 10!

They gave AMAZING prizes to the game winners! I left that shower with more in my hands than I came in with. I won the game where I had to identify which characters came from which kids' shows.

We all got to take home the goodie bags on the left! They had milk chocolate covered coconut almonds (Kelly's husband is Hawaiian), a mini coke, star-bursts, and skittles.

They are naming their baby Henry.  Kelly and I both lived in Millrace. Love that girl! She has always been such a supportive friend.
